Principles of Arts, Audio/Visual Technology and Communication

Overview

This course introduces careers in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications career cluster require, in addition to creative aptitude, a strong background in computer and technology applications, a strong academic foundation, and a proficiency in oral and written communication. Within this context, students will be expected to develop an understanding of the various and multifaceted career opportunities in this cluster and the knowledge, skills, and educational requirements for those opportunities.

Students will learn Basic publication skills using both computer software and industry equipment to create an end product.

They will work with different graphic software such as Google Sketchup and Adobe Design Suite CS6 to become familiar with the different types of software that are used in the industry. Students will also have to opportunity to explore the many different job opportunities that are available to AAVTC. 

Graphic Design and Illustration

Overview

Careers in graphic design and illustration span all aspects of the advertising and visual communications industries. Within this context, in addition to developing knowledge and skills needed for success in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications career cluster, students will be expected to develop an understanding of the industry with a focus on fundamental elements and principles of visual art and design

Students will learn the design process based from beginning to end product.  Their projects will be centered on a design concept, research and development of design, technical design, and product creation. 

The students will continue using Adobe design suite. 

Printing and Imaging Technology

Overview

Careers in printing span all aspects of the industry, including prepress, press, and finishing and bindery operations. Within this context, in addition to developing technical knowledge and skills needed for success in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications career cluster, students will be expected to develop an understanding of the printing industry with a focus on prepress and desktop publishing.

Students will learn the design process based from beginning to end product.  Their projects will be centered on a design concept, research and development of design, technical design, and product creation.  Students in the course will focus on product creation using the industry standard equipment available in our printing lab.  

Students have access to industrial paper cutter, padding press, comb binder, large format plotters, vinyl cutter, as well as xerox printing equipment.
